Our Story
Chicago was founded many years ago. In the 1920's Chicago experienced a high rise development boom. The London Guarantee and Accident building is one of Chicago's and the nation's most visible and prominent pieces of real estate located at the corner of North Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive. In the summer of 2013, visionary Chicago based developer Oxford Capital Group, LLC acquired the historic building and began a comprehensive redevelopment. The transform of this architecturally stunning property created a 452 room high-design, luxury lifestyle hotel called LondonHouse. LondonHouse Chicago synchronizes the classical architecture of 360 North Michigan Avenue with a modernist 22 story all glass tower addition forming a one-of-a-kind destination in Chicago. A CLASSIC MASTERPIECE REBORN
Architect Alfred S Alschuler’s beaux arts designed London Guarantee and Accident building was constructed in 1923 and is considered one of the "Big Four" skyscrapers surrounding the Michigan Avenue bridge at the Chicago River. The building has been home to many corporate head quarters over the years including London Guarantee and Accident Insurance, Stone Container Corporation, Crains Communications and the studios of Chicago’s WLS (AM) radio where legendary radio personality Paul Harvey performed his syndicated radio show from the 4th- floor. From the 1950s through the early 1970s the building also housed Chicago’s famous jazz supper club The London House in its ground floor. London House hosted some of the most famous acts of the day including Herbie Hancock, Oscar Peterson, Sarah Vaughan and Ramsey Lewis. In 2013, Chicago based developer Oxford Capital Group, LLC, purchased the building and is transforming it into a dynamic luxury lifestyle hotel featuring 452 rooms and suites, 25,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space, Chicago's only tri-level rooftop venue and two floors of upscale retail space. AT THE CORNER OF WHERE CHICAGO BEGAN
Designated a historic landmark in 1996, the former site of Fort Dearborn is where Chicago trade was born. Designed by Chicago architect Alfred S. Alschuler and completed in 1923, the London Guarantee & Accident building was named for its principal occupant and known as one of four 1920s anchors of the Michigan Avenue Bridge. Taking the additional three spots are the other architectural landmarks of the time: the Wrigley Building, Chicago Tribune Tower and the 333 North Michigan Avenue, which still remain as some of our city’s most historic and visually stunning structures.
