Celebrate Día de los Muertos with Afternoon Tea at LondonHouse Chicago

Celebrate Día de los Muertos with Afternoon Tea at LondonHouse Chicago

Día de los Muertos is a cherished Mexican tradition centered on remembrance, family and honoring loved ones who have passed. Inspired by the holiday’s rich culinary traditions, our team has thoughtfully reimagined the LondonHouse Afternoon Tea experience through Mexican flavors and dishes.

From September 28 through November 2, our signature Bridges River Vista Afternoon Tea transforms for the season with a special Día de los Muertos Afternoon Tea, featuring Mexican-inspired flavors all served alongside elevated views of the Chicago River.

Designed by the LondonHouse culinary team, this limited-time menu brings the warmth, color, and flavors of the season to one of Chicago’s favorite afternoon tea experiences.

Mexican-Inspired Flavors Meet Afternoon Tea

Forget everything you think you know about tiny sandwiches.

The Día de los Muertos menu takes the tradition of afternoon tea in a decidedly different direction, with savory bites including Barbacoa en Platano, featuring braised short rib, fried plantain, cotija and pickled red onion; Pollo con Mole Negro Sope with roasted chicken and mole negro; and Salpicón de Res Tostada, a bold shredded beef salad served with avocado on a corn tortilla.

Vegetable-forward selections include Sope de Calabeza, made with locally sourced butternut squash, toasted pepita and piloncillo syrup, and a refreshing Tostada de Jicama with quinoa, mango and avocado.

Save Room for Something Sweet

Pastry Chef Thomas Gorczyca has created a collection of sweets inspired by the flavors of the celebration.

The menu features Vanilla Bean and Chocolate Conchas, Empanada de Calabeza, Mexican Wedding Cookies and a Dulce de Leche Macaron. The sweets continue with La Catrina, a dark chocolate cake with ancho chile ganache; Arroz con Leche with horchata mousse; a Mangonada Bar with mango, chamoy and Tajín; and a Cinnamon Sugar Churro.

The full afternoon tea experience is $100 per guest.

Tea with a Chicago River View

Of course, it wouldn’t be afternoon tea without the tea.

Guests can select from the Rare Tea Cellar collection, ranging from classics like Crema Earl Grey and Darjeeling to more unexpected varieties including Wild Berry Noir, Canadian Ice Wine Elixir, Sakura Cherry Blossom, Mallorca Melon and Tropical Spiced Clementine.

This spread paired with the city views makes for a very memorable experience.

A Día de los Muertos Experience for Kids, Too

Little ones can join the fun too with a special $50 Kids Tea featuring playful selections including Mummy’s Pigs in a Blanket, a Pumpkin Cheese Ball, Bean & Cheese Empanada, Churro Sticks with dulce de leche dipping sauce and a Sugar Skull Popsicle made with Abuelita chocolate mousse.
